Give thanks always and for everything

| | Comments (39)

We're taking Ephesians 5:20 to heart the next few days. November 26 is Thanksgiving here in the United States. So starting today through Sunday, the 29th, the focus is on EVERYTHING in our lives that we're thankful for--that means the big, the small and whatever is in between.

Ephesians 5:20 clearly instructs us to give thanks always and for everything, so let's do it---together. I'll start us off with a something I'm thankful for today and then it's your turn. Plus, we'll have postings from a number of our P4 support team as well. We'll have one continuous "I'm Thankful For...." blog for the next five days. So don't be shy. Tell us what you're thankful for each day as the holiday weekend progresses. I'll be commenting daily and I really want to hear from you too.

Ok, on to my first "I'm Thankful For" entry.

This Thanksgiving Jeff (my hubby) and I aren't doing the norm. Usually we have a big family get together, but that's just not possible this year. However, it's worked out kind of cool because we're having several special guests to our house and I am thankful that they would share this day with Jeff and me. Our special guests are: my nephew Brodie, who is driving all night Wednesday from college in Oklahoma; Jeff's brother Brent, who loves to torment my three dachshunds; a long time friend, movie fanatic, and a co-worker from BttB, Barb; and a new friend who just moved to Nebraska to work at BttB, Jenni. So there's my first "I'm Thankful For" post. Now let's hear from you all!!!!

I am thankful that I get to spend the entire day with my dad and his wife today who I have not seen in 2 1/2 years. His wife is not saved so I am so thankful for the opportunity of today to be open to the Holy Spirit and doors He may open for me to share Jesus with her.

I am thankful for a God of second chances and for the bountiful blessings that he pours out on me and my family daily.

Normally everyone in our family ...which includes my mom and sister and aunt, we go over to my inlaws and have Thanksgiving with my husbands Family....This year every body is going to a lake with picnic tables and everyone is bringing a dish so there won't be so much clean up and all the kids can run around and have a good time.
I live in Florida so its pretty much warm on Thanksgiving and Christmas so eating and fellowshipping outside is a norm.We have a large group when we are all together.I'm thankful for my LARGE family and that we can all get to gether this year...and I'm thankful that Jesus is always apart of all our gatherings.

I'm thankful for my family. This thanksgiving will be similar but different than last year's. We are a small family of five, and I have 2 nieces; however, this year we are having more people over. It seems that slowly are family is growing. I am thankful for that.

This may seem like a rather depressing thing to be thankful for, but I am thankful for "tears." I am a person who has been blessed (I guess!)in that, I am moved easily~a beautiful song of praise, a tender relationship, giving thanks and, yes, losing loved ones. All of these and more, so easily bring me to tears. But, what an emotionally healthy release and God has given that to us. I feel for men and boys who have been taught to be "strong.' "Don't cry." Crying is nothing we should feel ashamed about, although I do admit, there are times I wish it didn't come so easily! I have lost both of my parents within the last 15 months and I know I will be shedding tears for them over this holiday season, but I have hope which unbelievers do not. Thank you, God! Happy Thanksgiving, Tami. I love Powered by 4.

I am so thankful for the opportunity to serve the Lord and to be used by Him to help others understand His Word better. The psalmist says, "Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him; bless His name. For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting, and His faithfulness to all generations (Psalms 100:4-5). What a blessing to serve a God who is good, loving and faithful.

I'm thankful for my home. Not only is it a nice one, but I'm glad to have one in this time of foreclosures.

I'm thankful for the cookies that my awesome co-worker just brought to work. Let the holiday eating begin! I'm also thankful for my wonderful husband and my amazing parents. I'm thankful for my brother and sister. I'm even thankful for my in-laws. They are great people! I'm thankful for an outstanding place to work. I'm thankful for my health. I'm thankful for Thanksgiving and the excuse to get together with family. When I think about it I have so much to be thankful for. Thank you, Lord.

Tami, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL OF YOU THERE AT POWERED BY 4 AND ALL BELIEVERS IN AMERICA.

I love Thanksgiving!! How perfect (and therapeutic) to dedicate a day or week to expressing gratitude right before we're bombarded with all the stuff we "need" to buy or have for Christmas. As I gather with parents and in-laws, grandparents and siblings, I'll be thinking about the amazing goodness and generosity of God. So here's my shortened, condensed list of thanks this year.

I'm so thankful for...

1. My husband who loves & serves God with his whole heart

2. A job that allows me to creatively encourage people in their relationship with God

3. The opportunity to lead my 8th grade girls Bible study (as crazy as it is!)

4. Husker football (yes, I'm a fanatic with the rest of the state of Nebraska)

5. Acts of generosity shown toward my husband & I

6. My parents who are still pursuing God and are purposeful in sharing their passion with their kids

7. Palm trees, the ocean, white sand--pretty much any warm place that occasionally provides escape from Nebraska winters

8. Pain which forces my focus back to God

God continues to faithfully bless my life with his beauty, peace and richness. What more could I ask for?

This Thanksgiving I'm thankful for God, my family, my Pastor who believes in teaching us the TRUTH and ONLY the TRUTH, and my church family.

Here in Barbados we don't celebrate Thanksgiving as a day that is something we do all year round but on November 30th we will be celebrating Independence and I am thankful that God has allowed this Little Island to be celebrating it's 43rd birthday......so really i am thankful for God's unchanging hand and the favor that he has shown this Island..

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BARBADOS

"God bless Bim on independence day"

WOW! I am loving the comments that have come in so far. Thank you everyone for sharing part of your thankful hearts and thoughts with us. Remember we're doing this the entire holiday weekend. So between turkey, ham, pumpkin pie or whatever you're having, keep those comments coming!!! Tami W.

I'm thankful for God' Word and people who encourage me to spend time in it. (Thank you Powered by 4!)

I'm thankful for the blessing of my husband, daughter, and the baby due in May. Family is a wonderful gift!

Well, I'm thankful Tami invited me for dinner...otherwise it was the chinese restaurant for me! (I love chinese food so it wouldn't have been a total hardship.) Seriously, I'm thankful to be part of the P4 team--I get to map out readings and create questions for us all. I say "all" because, even as I work on this, I have to ask (and answer) these questions in my own life. And it's a great challenge to keep me on my toes in my walk with God and my understanding of his Word. I'm thankful this year that His Word is living and vital and powerful. And I get to work with it everyday!

There are so many things I thank God for today.
1. For bringing family and friends from Barbados, Jamaica to Florida to celebrate thanksgiving and to attend my nephew and his fiance's wedding. I thank Him that my immediate famiy was able to travel to Florida even in these economic times.
2. I thank Him for life, His love and His wonderful and beautiful creation. I thank Him for His Word which keeps us close to Him.
3. I thank Him that even though I am a sinner He will still guide and protect me.
4. I thank Him that I am able to share in this blog today and and read what we are all thankful for.
May God bless you all and be with you and your family this thanksgiving. I pray for all those who may be lonely or may not have a meal and I know He will be with them.
Thanks again for sharing and Happy Thanksgiving.

I am thankful that I have found BttB and P4. I have looked fro years to find some "method" that will help me FINALLY get into God's Word (I am 55!).

"Something" finally clicked 2 weeks ago and now I look forward to getting up early to study P4 and then watch the day's video from BttB. I am thankful for technology that will allow me to get the emails one day and then study them the next (that is why I am writing this on Thursday and not Wednesday).

Thank you Tammy for P4 and thank you God for Dr. Kroll!

Jeff/B&B owner in Bar Harbor

I am thankful because I am 67 years old and am in good health despite my carelessness in maintaining it. I am even thankful that I woke up this morning and am able to write this. (Psalm 3:5) I am thankful that I have a wife who is far better than I deserve. I am thankful that I live in a country where I still have the freedom to express myself on forums like this while other Christians around the world are being persecuted. I am also sorry that I often take a lot of these blessings for granted.

Where should I start. I think I would say my family. I have a very supportive family. I'm also glad that I have a job in these difficult economic times.

I thank God for my eternal salvation. At 58, I can only attempt to count my blessings. I thank the Lord for my beautiful wife, and two strong children, my 'always busy' five year old granddaughter, and my daughter's second blessing is on the way for February.

A blessed, and Happy Thanksgiving Day to Tami, and Dr. Kroll, and everyone at BttB.

I Thank God that his is a Thrown of grace the covers us with endless mercies each day!

Hi Everyone! I shared some of my bigger thankful things yesterday so today, I'm going a little lighter with a couple of little things in keeping with our "give thanks always and in everything" theme. I just finished eating Thanksgiving dinner and I'm thankful for freshly ground and brewed Hazelnut coffee and fat free pumpkin pie. Yummy! I'm kind of a healthy eating fanatic,so being able to go light and still partake of the dessert was great. I'm also thankful for wonderful fellowship with friends today. Right now I'm sitting on my couch with my laptop listening to a couple of different conversations taking place at the same time. I love it! It feels like a gift to spend this day with others. Tami W.

I am thankful for a loving and supportive family and for the unconditional love of Jesus. I am also thankful for a free country and for those who are willing to sacrifice themselves to protect that freedom.

We are thankfull for a GREAT GOD who has used BttB all this time since Theadore Epp first had the calling to share the Bible with a greater number of people in a better way.

I am thankful for access to healthcare and medications...

How encouraging to see the many things that we can give thanks for.
I am particularly encouraged to see people being thankful in difficult circumstances, which brings me to what I'm thankful for. Despite my arthritis, I am thankful for access to healthcare and medications which makes it manageable. I pray for the millions of others who don't have this, and who instead are hanging out for the day when God will wipe away all pain and disease, and give to us perfect, whole bodies. I am thankful to have this Day to look forward to.

first off im so thankful for God in my life, dont know how i would get thru the days without him. im thankful for my family, my job my apartment with more than enough food. im thankful for my fiancee who God has brought into my life.

Well I'm thankful to god for my husband who will soon find salvation and give his life to the lord and return home
For all five of my sons especially the one who came to live with me,and that he too will find salvation as well
I'm thankful for my permanant position
I'm also thankful to god for keeping me,saving me and opening my eyes for leading me here to dover delaware where my life has changed for the better also for placing strong faithful christians around me and my family
Not only did he move me to a beautiful state it's the first state
I'm thankful for everything he's done for me and my famiy
Also I'm thinkful for a closer walk and relationship with the lord
I'm just thankful to be in the kingdom of god and in the body of christ and there isn't anything else that I would want to be in or a part of such as this thank you GOD

I am thankful the Lord saved me, and he has not given up on making me more like him (it's a project!).
I am thankful for my husband, Brad...and all the Lord has blessed us with. He is gracious and all we can do is receive.

Well, our company is all gone (bummer) but I'm still thankful for much this morning. Getting a couple of days break from the daily grind of work has been wonderful. Jeff and I got up at 5am this morning to say goodbye to our nephew who is driving back to Oklahoma today. Then we went back to bed and didn't get up until 8am. That almost never happens in this house. Right now, I'm on about my fourth cup of Golden Pecan coffee (yum) and getting ready for some quality one-on-one time with God. I'm so thankful for His Word. I'm about half way through Ezekiel and hope to do a burst of reading and finish off the book since I have more time than usual this morning.

Speaking of reading, if you haven't been able to open your Bible yet this holiday weekend, that's ok because you can still get in some reading today. I'm right with you. I haven't gotten my reading done so thus, the big burst today. Hang in there and keep telling us why and/or what you're thankful for this weekend! Tami W.

II Corinthians 9:15/CEV

"Thank God for His gift that is too wonderful for words."

I'm thankful for God's grace and all the ways He is reminding me of His love for me this long weekend. His grace is so amazing, I am feeling loved - truly loved here lately. I came to Christ looking for love in a godly marriage. I am finding all the things I wanted from a human man, God gave me that day in Christ. It's taken me a long time to see and I'm so thankful for His patience - His grace towards me. So undeserved, so wonderful.

I am thankful for how God has been working all things out for our families good over the past year. We moved out of our old neighborhood and away from my wife's family, which was difficult, in order to help my boy's sleep apnea by moving closer to the ocean air. In the long run it was not the smoggy air of Los Angeles that helped Timothy's sleep, but the Lord's provision and grace. Although we moved farther away from my wife's family, we are now in a community that has a stronger Christian presence and better quality neighbors.

God willing, we will be able to serve the Lord in a way that He chooses in the coming year and settle us in a solid home church.

Robert

Where does a person begin who lives in the United States of America where we can worship a God and Jesus as our personal Savior without being persecuted, executed, or separated from family in prison; where we have the freedom to succeed or fail in our pursuit of goals and dreams and occupations; to be healed or cured from a serious illness; and to be aided by our community when misfortune strikes home, to name only a few!!! God's grace is sufficient in joy, peace, sadness, suffering, work, and trials. This month, I'm especially thankful for the book, Thanksgiving, A Time to Remember by Barbara Rainey. It indeed made my family and myself more aware this Thanksgiving holiday of the supreme sacrifices the Pilgrims made coming to this country and how God worked through that process in their pigrimage. They were true worshippers and valued their moments singing praises and praying constantly. It indeed reminded our family that God is in control and demands our obedience in worship and prayer and DESERVES it!!! Thank you Barbara and thank you, Tami, for the opportunity to share what's on our hearts!!!

I’m thankful for my family.
I’m thankful for every blessing from breathing and heartbeats to being able to perform my job.
I’m thankful we turn to Him so quickly in times of need.
I am so thankful for the special times in the last couple months when all seemed so completely hopeless and He brought us to our knees in tearful praise of joy.
I’m thankful for miracles and how God allows me to use these to witness to loved ones.
I’m thankful for my relationship with God.
Bill

I am thankful for the consistancy of GOD. While others may leave HE is always there and will be by my side always, for everything I need HIM for. Even at times that I am not ready to act, he is with me for as long as it takes.

I'm so very thankful for God's compassion.Just knowing that God still loves me even though I'm undeserving of His love.I'm thankful for so much this year one of the things I'm so thankful of right now is keeping my daughter her husband and my grandchildren safe during their deployment in Germany and my son inlaw in Iraq. Now the're coming home.Thank You God
