John 1:19-34

I am not the Christ.

John was just plain old John. Are you as impressed as I am with John the Baptist in John 1:19-28? The priests and Levites are questioning John about who he is. At this point quite a number of people are following him and his teaching, and the Jewish leaders are wondering if he might be Christ or Elijah. But John will have none of it. He lets them know in short order that he "is not the Christ" or any other esteemed Jew and that he is simply the messenger. Now, it would have been easy for John to put himself in the spotlight here. But we don't see that all at. There's not even a hint of "I may not be The One but I'm still important." Pretty remarkable. I'm not sure my response would have been so selfless.

So here's the big question--how can we be more like John? Regardless of what God has called us to do, how do we stay humble and not make it about us? Tami W.

What a great passage of scripture, to remind us in this age of pleasing people (even in our attempt to spread the gospel). I hear almost every day now, how "we just need to love." "All we need to do is love". Yet, here is a great example of what we are called to do. Preach the true and the whole gospel. Even when that means bringing to light what needs to be brought into the light. Even when that means others get upset with us. Thank you.

Tami,

Thank you so much for this Blog which teaches and brings me closer to God each day.

We must remember that whatever God has called us do, it is about Him and not about us.

Humble - not proud or haughty : not arrogant or assertive

“God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble [James 4:6]”

I pray for God's grace to keep us humble especially when we live in a society that encourages competition and individuality.

The goodnews is all about the one who can save us. He lead us to the Father. Were simply saved by Gods grace though faith. Who will be the greatest in the kingdom,? maybe no one, besides Jesus. He is the one who inherits all. And we will be in Him, rejoicing in Him. LETS TELL THE STORY OF JESUS, and what HE has done for each one of us. What do we have to boast about? JESUS

I believe that for us to tell the story, we must have love in our hearts. First, we must love the Lord our God with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our mind, and our neighbour as ourselves. If we do not have this love then we cannot tell the story of Jesus. We not be like the Scribes and Pharisees. Yes, we must share in humility what He has done personally for us but foremost, we must take them to the His Word in the Bible (the prophesies in the Old and New Testaments). His life on earth as man. His unconditional love, His care, His teachings and miracles. His crucifixion and death on the Cross at Calvary for us sinners (He who never sinned) so that we can have salvation. His imminent coming again soon. Tell our families, friends the need to believe that He is Jesus Christ our Saviour, God the Son and that we must obey His laws.
To God belongs all the Glory!
Thank you all for allowing me to share and may God continue to bless, guide our speech and strengthen us.
Joan R.
