Ruth 3:6-18

Our reactions are telling. How well do you receive and respond to instruction? Think about it because how we react says a lot about who we are. It can reveal pride or humility, confidence or cockiness. Ruth embraced the advice and instruction she received from Naomi. She didn't question Naomi. She didn't suggest some alternate plan. She just willingly and humbly accepted Naomi's instructions (even as odd as they probably sounded) and them carried them out with confidence. I find that amazing because I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have responded that way.

So you know where I'm going with this--we need to think about how well we take instruction from God. Proverbs 12:15 says "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice." So if we're not living Ruth's example and the words of Proverbs 12:15 when it comes to God's Word (our instruction manual), how can we start moving in that direction? Tami W.

Great questions this week Tami. For me today's question was more of an answer thank a question. My family and a couple of close friends quite often turn to me for direction. Sincle my personality is to nuture and give I struggle at times to "stop thinking" and listen to God for direction. I have to work, work, work at this daily!
Enjoy your day!

My first instinct or reaction is usually all about ME. That's why I try to step back, take a moment and think it through with prayer. Often the instruction or advice that is hardest to take is the very best for me.

Has anybody found a good online commentary link yet? I would like to look up the roll of "Redeemer" in this context. Thanks !

There are a several sites online that offer Bible commentaries, Bible Dictionaries and study Bibles. Since all the "free" sites have to use commentaries that are in the public domain (i.e. the copyright has expired), they are very similar in what they offer. One of these sites is http://bible.christiansunite.com/commentary.shtml This site offers the Matthew Henry Commentary, the People's New Testament Commentary, Jameison-Faussett-Brown Commentary, etc. You can also find commentaries at http://www.biblestudytools.com/Commentaries/. In addition to some of the commentaries above, this site also has Treasury of David, a commentary on the Psalms. Again, these will be the older commentaries. While not exactly a commentary, the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia (http://www.studylight.org/enc/isb/) can be very helpful especially for word studies. Easton's Bible Dictionary is another good reference work (http://www.searchgodsword.org/dic/ebd/).

Hope that gives everyone a good start!

Thanks, Allen, for the helpful information!

Thank you Allen!
