Proverbs 14:16-35

Fools. Folly. Foolishness Part II. We're back to Proverbs 14 and today (Sunday) is Part II on our topic of foolishness.

We all do foolish things. And some of us act this way more often than others. Proverbs 14 is pretty clear that foolishness is not desirable and doesn't bring about good results. So it would be wise of us to be aware of the when and whys of falling into this behavior.

So was there a verse or two that you recognized as describing you at one time or another? I could identify with verses 16, 17 and 29. Those all deal with getting angry, quick tempers and our reactions in those circumstances. I can have a pretty quick temper and there have been a number of times in my past where I let that urge get the best of me. So these verses are good reminders to me that I need to keep that urge in check. So once we recognize a verse or two that describe us, what should be do with that? What are some things we can do, practically, that will help us not fall into being and acting like foolish people? Tami W.

this is so good i wish that more woman would know this .Ive a daught in law, that is so mad at God it seem i try to weittnes to hear . but she just laugh. she has a very bad mouth always angry, and have a very bad tempers, my son and her and the 2 kids live with me. i have a very sick hudson we are trying to learn the kids BOUT gOD LOVE , There are young but that not going stop me, with God on my side, i feel i will win this batter, it not easy, but iam not going give up, Love Bridget

I recently have had some people really pulling on me to give them more of myself than I was willing to. When I read verse 31;"Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him." I was struck by the idea that poverty and neediness go way beyond the area of finance. At the same time, verses 16 and 18 talk about caution and knowledge (I love using my dictionary with key words even if I know what they mean because it gives me a clearer definition of what is being said) so I need to talk with the Lord about the situation and make sure I am on the right path. I think the biggest benefit to studying the book of Proverbs is getting a clearer picture of what foolishness and wisdom are. Like working with counterfeit money you really have to know the real thing to recognize the false thing in your life. It's really easy to see it for someone else but not apply it to us. Tammy do you write theses questions? They are really helpful even though I tend to struggle with the personalness sometimes. I have found that having questions to answer after a section of the scripture is the best way for me to really study and move it into my heart for myself so thanks!

I understand what you mean about the temper, Tami. I struggle with that at times myself. I was just thinking. Things I have been through recently at work have helped me learn to just be quiet. Deal with issues later if need, and get help. Our commanders at work can seem mean and demeaning to people (like me) who are not in the military. Our pastor made a statement the other Sunday about "winning in submission." I can understand what that means. I just get quiet, and let supervisors, union etc. speak up. In submission and quietness, I can win. It's been a tough lesson to learn, but I hope I get get it in my spirit. I often ask God to give me wisdom when opening my mouth.

2 things have struck me in relation to my being short-tempered with my son this morning. (1) is the fear of the Lord, which gives confidence (and consequently, a refuge for my son), and which is a source of life. (2) is the wisdom of being slow to anger and cautious with a tranquil heart, and on the other hand the folly of being quick-tempered. So I'm praying God helps me to remember who he is (the fear of the Lord), and to therefore act with wisdom even when my son is being difficult. And I'm also thinking of how to deal practically with the triggers of my anger.

though the whole chapter nurtures me, the verses pertaining to the fear of the Lord stand out right now as I examine some actions & look to see if the Fear of the lord was part of the decision process.,,so for now that do it for me vs 26 & 27

Hi Tami,
I can relate with this subject today.
I had a runin with this foolishness and let the urge get the best of me on Labor day. I Thank God for his grace and mercy. He gave me a way to Repair the damage. Also Family members praying for me helped bring about understanding, which I am thankful for. None us like it when the smoke ( Foolish Thoughts )turn into a Spark which starts a fire and people you love can get burned.
WE should not dwell on, or use our time thinking on things that can kindle the flame of this foolishness. LOOK to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. Let him take that discomforting thing from us like a doctor operating on us and removing something that has the potential to take our life.
Praise God!

Danette, I do write all my own blogs (including the questions), however there are others on the team who write the questions in the P4 emails. Glad you're enjoying them. It's good for me to think through them as well! Tami W.
