John 3:22-36
It's not about me (or you)---It's all about Jesus! Isn't it cool how John the Baptist is so eager to point all attention to Jesus when he could have easily accepted a lot of praise from those watching him baptize? He knew his place and did all he could to raise Jesus up to his proper place. Not always the easiest thing to do because our human nature kicks in.
So what are some things we can do to be a modern day John, if you will---to pave the way for Jesus to be highlighted rather than us? Tami W.
P.S. Any examples you might want to share where you modeled John's behavior? Or maybe where you didn't if you're up for it?

I don't know if it's 'John-like', but whenever someone congratulates me for doing something well, I always have this 'feeling' inside, and I tell the person that it was not because of anything that I am that enabled me to complete the task in any extraordinary way, but it is because of the Lord Who resides within me, Who is constantly working in my mind and body to bring Himself glory. It doesn't feel right to take credit for anything when my Saviour deserves it all!
I have served as a church worship leader and musician. The experience is seductive for a leader because people are often moved by the emotional experience and express their thanks to the "performers". In reality, we are imperfect conduits of a message that doesn't originate with us, with hearts that are often out of sync, and my prayer generally was along the lines of, "God, please don't let my method or my madness obscure your message." My worth is only validated as I see people changed by the Holy Spirit and I hear them express their gratitude to the Lord.
When I receive praise, I often see myself as just part of the team. I express my thanks, but let the person know that I was only a small part of the team. Jesus usually sent his people out in pairs. Along with what Christopher said, it's all because of the talents and abilities that God has given us. We are expected to use those talents and abilities for Gods glory and expanding His kingdom.
