Mark 14:32-40

Sometimes I go back and forth about how much I should ask God for when I pray. Do you ever do that? I know I should put my requests before Him, but then again, I want to be careful because I don't want to approach God with the wrong attitude. I need a balance and some perspective, and that's exactly what I get from Jesus' prayer in Mark 14:36.

What do you see Jesus do here after he expresses his desire to His Father? What do you learn from that? Tami W.

As the mother of five children who address me as "Mommy" or "Mom", I remember times when they have presented me with some pretty ridiculous requests! But since I am their "Mommy", the children can ask me anything, and they know it! However, sometimes I have to say "No" or "Wait until you grow up". Sometimes we have to spend some time together so I can explain and answer their questions. So it is with me in prayer to my "Dad" (Abba). When my Christian life was in the toddler stage, I know I asked (even begged!) my Father for things He did not give me (wisely!). As I spent time in the Word and prayer, I began to understand why He had said "No" and my prayers are more often in line with His will for me. The attitude expressed by Jesus was "not my will, but thine be done." It isn't wrong to ask, but we need to be willing to adjust our requests when we learn more about God's perfect will in the situation.

Hi Tami,
I have went back and forth before, not being sure of which way, or what I should do. I do try to go toward peace in my heart.
Prospective, Balance as you said are what I get when I really think about it, which can change how I look at my desires.
I thank you for asking the Question, and your comment, it truly makes me think more about what my will is, and what Gods will is.

Tami, this has come up before. When we pray to Our Lord, we should always start by singing out praise and worship to Him. Then we ask Him for what we need. Yet, He already knows what we need, in every instance. From my understanding, when we become "Born Again", when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are infused by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit then translates our prayer into what God needs to hear from us. If this is true, as I believe, then no matter what we ask, God only hears what we need. Any thoughts?
