Today we're in Psalm 52.

Who is Doeg the Edomite? Did you know Psalm 52 is talking about him? One of the things that I like about reading my Bible (but that can also be a little tricky) is that there are a lot of cross referencing and layering (events recorded in several places or talking about the same thing in different books and by different people, for example). We see that in Psalm 52. Doeg was evil and did some horrible things. But if you're not familiar with Doeg or the part he played in Saul's and David's exchanges, you won't understand what you're reading as well.

So, want the low down on Doeg? Read 1 Samuel 21-22. Doeg isn't mentioned until the middle of chapter 21 and about 2/3 of the way down in chapter 22, but to get the whole context, you really need to read the whole thing. Have fun reading--and, let me know what you think. Tami W.

Hi,
First let me thank you for your tireless daily work in the word.I would like to not only bring encouragement but also and idea that may help both believers and nonbelievers on your pages. Let me give a specific example. In your write up today on Psalm 52 second paragraph you implore the reader to open Samuel 21-22 to get the full context...which is essential of course to grasp most times what the scripture is really saying. If you have a LIVE link on the Samuel 21-22 people may actually read it.And make it live anywhere on the site when scripture is referenced. Human nature being what it is..if things take effort at times we don't do it...But I think in this case...you obviously have digital readers anyway when they,I encounter these things...and many times I am taken away to do other things...SO if the live link is there and I have no work to do...I will probably get the benefit..If it is not less than half the time the reader will not.

Keep on the course, your work is meaningful.

Blessings

Rex

Hi Tami,
I never paid much attention to his name when reading before. Thank you for bringing him up.
In reading Psalm 52 I see that God will punish the wicked and will take care of His people who trust in the steadfast love of God. I want to be like that olive tree.

Rex,

Thanks for your comments! We actually have a technology on the blog that automatically searches for any scripture references and then creates a link. Come to find out, it doesn't recognize passages with a chapter only (it's looking for verses as well). So, now that we know that, we'll create links for those references manually. The easier we can make it the better, right! Great catch.
