We're in Proverbs 5 today.

Wise words from a wise man--for men--or is it really? There's no doubt that Proverbs 5 is full of wise advice from a wise man, but I definitely think it applies to men and women alike. There are quite a few take aways in this loaded chapter. As a married person, verses 15-20 speak loud and clear to me about being and staying committed to my husband and loving him fully. Yet, there's plenty of advice for singles too.

So did any particular verse or segment speak to you? What did you take away from Proverbs 5? Tami W.

Hi Tami,
There ARE quite a few 'take-aways' in this chapter, aren't there?
Where do I begin?

From the view of a single woman, it is a reminder of proper behavior around men. We forget, or do we realize, how (should I say) 'enticing' we can be to a man, should he be married or not. I am single not by choice - a widow due to my own husband's enticements - so I enjoy the attention of a man. Verse 6 pops out at me. I think we tend to, on both sides, 'forget' (or ignore) the possibilities and outcomes of 'innocent' friendships & interactions with the opposite sex.

Which brings me to another thought.
These adulterous acts - just like this passage could pertain to a man OR woman, let's not forget that the enticement may not ONLY be from a human. Drugs and pornography are very big 'mistresses' in this day & age. When I found out that my husband was taking drugs, he said to me 'I just want you to know that I never cheated on you.' I needed a counselor to tell me 'yes! he did!'

Relationships are so fragile. We take others for granted. Verses 15 - 19 give us good 'wisdom' to follow. How precious is the gift of a husband or wife!

Just wanted to post a quick note to Janet. God will reward your faithfulness on honoring Him. It takes courage to talk about your situation and it will help others. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Joni T. My reason for sharing is twofold. I know that I am not alone, and I do hope it helps others. Of course, it also helps me in my healing. A good book I read regarding my situation (I thought I wrote it in my sleep!) was 'The Cleavers Don't Live Here Anymore,' by Laurie Hall. Thanks again :)

I have to agree 100%. I commute to work on the bus, so I take that time to read my Bible. In fact, I have a little electronic Bible which makes it easier to take with me on the bus. It helps me control my mouth and my thoughts through out the day.
