Romans 8:1-11
We are not alone! If you're a Christian, a believer and follower of Jesus Christ, then the Holy Spirit resides in you 24/7. That means then that you (and I) no longer live according to our sinful nature (bad) but we now live according to the Spirit (good). If you haven't already read Romans 8:1-11, read it now (or re-read it). Think about living in the Spirit and then consider what that looks like practically. I'd love to read your thoughts. Tami W.

Tami,
I enjoy reading your inspiring e-mails. they are a great source of encouragement to me. You have just reminded me of one of the things that we usually forget or we dont mind it. The Holy Spirit resides in us and he is there to help us live according to what He wants.
When we come to the passage it reminds us of what the law cannot do to us. It can correct us or be in fellowship with the Almighty Creator. The Holy Spirit helps us in many ways He is constantly reminding us of who we are when we are faced with trials.
We even defeat the devil by the help Him. I enjoy listening to you on the radio too with Dr Woodrow Kroll. Keep it guys and may God bless and keep you safe always.
This is how I kind of dont' like how these verses are split into two sections "The Law and Sin" and "Life in the Spirit", although I also see the benefit of it making it somewhat clearer that way, but the thing is separating these two makes it look like two messages from Paul when it's just one.
And what happens is after reading the "The Law and Sin" sub-section(or what ever it is called) it looked as though Paul was trying to justify our sinful nature, where as if we read it without the sub sections, the message emphasis is not in justifying our sinful nature but in Living in the Spirit, the Holy Spirit in us is who should govern our daily lives as children of God.
I'm probably splitting hairs here but these are my thoughts.
To those of you who are shocked i'm criticizing the bible, calm down i'm not criticizing the Words of God just the way it was sectioned and I don't think the original manuscripts were split in sub-sections anyway and I think it is for a good reason.
I'm here to learn, so any comments on my thoughts are welcome.
First I should say, "Happy Monday!" ;) - and then note that you switched the online bible to the ESV Bible Logos.com instead of Bible Gateway...which incidentally, I LOVE the new ESV Study bible from Crossway. I highly recommend it.
I love Romans 8, but today the following I found thought provoking -
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Not only is this a great reminder, but it's also a great way to discern how others are doing in their walk with the Lord, or even if they have one. One thing I've always found really sad is that I can go to church and sit through a sermon, and then go out to lunch with friends who sat through the same sermon and not talk about the sermon. My husband and I try to bring it up and maybe there might be a few comments like..."I liked it.. or it was too long - bla bla bla" but rarely does it lead to anything of substance.
Which makes me more thankful for those I do know who really love the bible and talking about and living it out.
"Happy Monday " as Stacy said. That makes me smile. I just got back from a home going funeral for a pastor who had been in the ministry for over 50 Years. He always spoke the word of God and always had a smile.
I agree with what Stacy said in her comment, and as she mentioned in her last sentence, I also enjoy talking with others about the things of God and his word. This Study of Romans is good for me.
To Alexb, I partly agree with you, But I believe that we need to truly understand how serious this is and how it effects our life in so many major ways. in my view, now having a better understanding, I should be able to help others in a better way and maybe recognize my fleshly side before it gets unbecoming.. Example: (This happens to me also Stacy )Like why do people who go out to lunch after church and then they do not talk about the sermon? If they did, it would help them to grow more in the things of God.. But Being led by what I think is our sin nature ( or our Flesh ) they don’t. And miss out on what God could have done in them. Breaking it apart helps me to understand it better. But I feel better when we put them together. Notice I used the word feel ( My Flesh ).
Anyway! Tami I took a little time looking at some of archives. I need to spend some more time there. What a wonderful source of Wealth. Gods wisdom is truly more valuable than Silver or Gold.
