This past weekend I changed up my reading a little. I read in the Psalms on Saturday (instead of in 1 Kings where my regular reading is right now) and then Sunday I read a variety of passages in Romans in relation to something for church. Today, though, I went back to my normal reading schedule. Now here's the thing, even though I read my Bible over the weekend, it felt different. I guess I'd describe it as feeling kind of disjointed--until I started reading in 1 Kings again this morning. It just reinforced for me the importance of having a reading plan and sticking with it.
There was a time in my life where I'd pick up my Bible and just open it wherever and hope that God would speak to me through whatever I happened to land on that day. Although I was taking in God's Word, I never really felt completely satisfied until I started reading consistently and intentionally. Now don't get me wrong, I still have times when I pick up my Bible and look up a scripture that speaks to something I'm dealing with at the moment. But I've found that reading systematically, whether following a plan like Powered by 4 or starting in Genesis and reading straight through to Revelation, really draws me in and helps me understand and learn so much more than I could ever get by opening my Bible and reading random passages.
So I'm curious. What's your experience been with your Bible reading? And one more thing--if you haven't watched today's video blog, check it out. I've thrown out a little challenge. I think you'll like it, and it's something that will help you throughout the week. So tell me about your Bible reading, watch the video, take the challenge and later this week let me know how it worked for you. See ya. Tami W.

I have been reading my Bible every day.Sometimes I read the same passage in different translations to more fully understand. At the present time our pastor is going thru Romans, so that is where I have been doing most of my reading.
I particularly liked the idea of finding something that helps us remember God's faithfulness to us. I haven't quite decided what that will be for me yet. I think if I do that it will help me get through the tough times a little easier. It's like the jar that the Hebrews put out.
Thanks
Okay, you asked for it... :)
Over the weekend I found myself reading the luxurious book of The Song of Solomon to my husband. NOW that is GREAT reading ;)
One way that I memorize scripture is through music, whether or not it's my own writing or others, I love worship music. Over the weekend I downloaded from iTunes some old Petra music - More Power to Ya (a great song) and This Means War! (yes, I'm admitting I'm almost 40...but this music was very much used in my early walk with the Lord, and now as a MUCH OLDER and semi-ancient person, the lyrics are even more meaningful.
Now back to the Song of Solomon....
My husband and I read a short devotional in the morning and thats it for me...I need PRAYER. That's why when I saw this in the Meet with God magazine in the mail you send us....The very next morning I signed up. PLEASE PRAY for me....thank you for sharing the most important thing to share with others.....GODS WORD!!!
I have been a Christian for 50 years and have always been the happiest when I was reading God's word daily. I have gotten out of the daily consistent reading for as long time now but always keep trying to get back to it but not trying hard enough. ...I just caught the end of your program and heard you talking about powered by four and being encouraged by others and am not sure what it was all about but would like to know more......looking forward to finding out....
My reading habits have not been good. For one I never been much of a reader, two even when I would tell myself I will read God's Word, it didn't happen.
What I have found is if I am in a bible study or have been challenged to read His glorious word, I am able to stick with it. Therefore, I am very thankful the Lord brought me to P4. Since starting I have only missed one day of reading. Even on my week away I was able to log-on to P4 and do my daily reading and devotional. The day I missed was horrible. I knew I had missed my time with the Lord in His word.
Thank you for being obedient to God's call for P4...it is a tremendous blessing.
I just signed up for P4. I have gotten in the habit or practice of reading the bible every day. I also listen to it over the internet as I read. What I love about the reading schedule under P4 is the questions. Answering the questions make you think deeper.
I encourage everyone to read the word daily. Just like you need physical food for physical growth, you need spiritual food for spiritual growth.
I have been listening to back to the Bible on a local radio station in my home province of New Brunswick, Canada. Three and a half years ago I was born again and I have been slowly learning about His word. I would be very interested to try this study. Thank you for your radio program and for enlightening me for these years.
It's good to see some early A.M. risers such as myself on the blogs. I had fallen so far away from God less than a year ago that the Lord God decided that I needed to be corrected and uprighted. I nearly lost my family because of it, but through the beautiful nature of our God; I started reading. I read all twelve books in the LEFT BEHIND series. When I finished with those, I decided to give P4 a try to help me get back into the Bible reading habits - the good ones. Focused on the questions, and determined to "root out" the answers, I find my self not just reading the words - but actually listening to them in my heart.
